Clearly sleeping is not an option, since the (rather large) soda I foolishly drank at dinner has made that particular pursuit pretty fruitless for the last 2 hours. So why not an lj update, considering my posting has been a bit ... nonexistant as of late. The month of July has been (comparatively speaking) rather an exciting one. It started out with a 2 week visit up north to the place I call home. That was Traveling on a Wednesday evening fraught with thunderstorms meant that I arrived at the airport to discover that my original flight was still sitting in Florida and would not leave BWI until 1230am at the earliest and this was no garauntee if the storms did not stop. However, a very kind (although excessively annoying) travel agent put me on an earlier flight that was still sitting at the gate. This did mean separating from my luggage, which of course was already checked for the original flight, but it all turned out fine in the end. After finally arriving in Connecticut, I proceeded to sit in the airport for about an hour as my mother was picking up my friend at the train station. Due to flooding up and down the east coast, her train was running over an hour late. But we both made it safe and sound. The drive home also included a rather hilarious search for food (ultimately culminating at a late night Wendy's drive-through) which served to prove my mother's complete inability to eat a frosty without making a mess. Thursday morning was spent preparing for Women's Poker Weekend, a yearly tradition in my family where the Ladies drive up to a cabin in Vermont, play cards, drink beer and generally cause a ruckus. Always great fun and this year was no exception. The number of attendees was lower than usual (only 6 of us) but that didn't stop the excitement. Cindy, Mom and I once again proved our elite charades skills and I actually managed not to lose ALL of my money at cards (a first!). Sadly, Sunday morning meant returning back to CT, but there was no rest for the weary! No sooner did we arrrive back at the house then we were off again. This time it was to a family picnic, but a branch of the family I didn't know at all! Luckily, Cindy was stuck with me, so I was not all alone and we ended up having a great time, including some pretty awesome games of volleyball where I didn't make a completely unathletic ass of myself, yay! Monday saw us taking Cindy back to the train station, where her train was, once again, a bit late. But the adventures didn't stop there! Originally when conceiving this visit home, I had anticipated the next few weekdays as a time to relax and hang out with my family a bit. Unfortunately, I forgot to factor in the Fourth of July! (Does that make me un-Amurrrican?). So the next few days were spent running around seeing family and friends. All enjoyable events, but no downtime to be seen! On top of everything, my parents left on Friday to go on a vacation of their own, oddly enough, to Tennessee. Dollywood, the Builtmore and the Dixie Stampede all made their itinerary. What this meant was I was home alone and they had left me nothing but a pick-up truck to drive around! One of my best friends from high school was getting married and I was in the wedding party. So here's how things went down: Friday afternoon the bride, the groom and I took a 3 vehicle caravan up to Massachusetts (the site of the reception and hotel). My truck got left at the hotel, the groom's truck at the reception hall and the bride kindly drove us all back home. That night was the rehearsal dinner, which all went swimmingly (except for the part where I turned into a 13 year old girl and made a total fool of myself). Half the bridesmaids (including myself) spent the night with the bride at her parents house. It was a fun and chill time and the next morning we all trucked downtown to get our hair done all pretty-like. Scarily enough we were all ready early and nothing went wrong. The biggest snafu of the entire wedding was the ring bearer's sudden stage fright and refusal to walk down the aisle, but as snafus go, that's nothing. Suffice it to say, the bride was radiant, the wedding was beautiful and the reception rocked out. I had spent the last 6 months terrified that my dress (fitted in December and not seen since) wouldn't fit, so I bought myself a full body undercorset. Everything fit, but I decided to wear the corset anyway. This had some interesting consequences, mainly that after the 2 drinks I took down during the free cocktail hour (after not eating since breakfast many hours ago), I sat down to dinner only to realize that there was no room in the dress for food. I'm already a lightweight when it comes to alcohol and the combination of that and no food meant it took the entire night (starting at 6pm and ending at 1245am) for me to finish sobering up. But it was fun all the same! What little of the food I managed to taste was really good and the music was fun and I got to harass [livejournal.com profile] kearns for numerous hours, a favorite past time of mine. I particularly enjoyed the fact that despite not going to bed until 230am or so, both Kearns and I managed to wake up at 630am and couldn't go back to sleep. So we spent the next 3 hours amusing each other and annoying the hell out of our other hotel roommate. That afternoon was a picnic at the bride's parents' house, also a lot of fun, especially since she had given all the bridesmaids matching tshirts with our "titles" on them. Plus there was pool volleyball, always a fun time. NOw the wedding is finally done and overwith, but still no time for On Monday I proceeded to buy myself a new wardrobe (a very cute and rather stylish one at that!) and then threw a small dinner party. Someday I will learn the correct portioning of a dinner for five, but that night was not the time. All the food turned out really well, there was just quite a lot of it! Then everyone hung out and watched "Elizabethtown." It was a very nice night, I got to spend some more time with the newlyweds and my friend Reed, which was an especially plus since I had just learned that he is joining the Peace Corps and will be in Africa for the next 2 and a half years! Tuesday was running errands and then dinner (and board games, yay Cranium delux) at my Aunt's, where they also served my early birthday cake, which is always a pleasant surprise. Wednesday was a frantic rush to clean up, pack, lunch with the grandparents and try and finish some actual work before flying back to Maryland that night and straight to work Thursday morning! It was a great time, but I came home feeling like I needed a vacation from my vacation! I think that is enough of an update for now, hopefully I will be able to get to sleep at this point.

p.s. I am now 23. yay?
